Getting started.

This is not a project. It is ten minutes, most of it just watching. Nobody needs to hold anything down.

01

Set it up

Put the board flat on the floor somewhere quiet, away from food bowls and other toys, so it is not competing for attention.

02

Load it

Fill the tray with a few small treats and slide it into the back of the board. Let them watch you do this so they know where it went.

03

Let them find it

Set the board down and step back. Most dogs sniff at it first. That is the session working, not stalling.

04

Wait for one paw

The first real progress is one paw landing on the surface, even for a second. Mark it, treat separately, and stop for the day.

If nothing happens in the first session

Some dogs need a few sessions before the first paw lands, and some sniff and walk away entirely. Neither means it is not going to work. If a few short sessions in a row end the same way, the troubleshooting guidecovers what to try next.
